The first Greek innovation hub dedicated to the development, production and exploitation of aromatic and medicinal plants, Aroma Innovation Hub, organizes the first pan-Hellenic competition for innovative entrepreneurship and innovative business idea for the Aromatic and Medicinal Plants sector.
The project focuses on the exploitation of more than 500 aromatic and medicinal plants that thrive in our country. Indeed, the large number and the huge variety of these plants on Greek land place Greece at the top of the world rankings. However, Greece has not made use of this asset to the extent that it would depend on it, so efforts are being made in this direction. One of these is the innovative contest from Aroma Hub, which was presented today at the Embassy of France (Vasilissis Sofias Avenue 7).
The ultimate goal of the competition is to support the producers of such plants to see their ideas or their start-ups grow and develop into healthy and sustainable business structures that will strengthen the Greek economy. The vision of Aroma Innovation Hub is to deliver rigorous research results to the production line and to value the finished product.
P. Kritsonis: At the "embryonic" stage the use of aromatic plants
As Petros Kritsonis, co-founder of Aroma Innovation Hub, said: "The hub was created with the collaboration of five research laboratories at the University and the TEI of Patras and ten companies." Mr. Krzonis pointed out that the use of aromatic and medicinal plants is still at an "embryonic" stage in Greece and noted that some of the main objectives of the competition are the promotion of the primary sector, the increase of arable land, small growers for the adoption of new cultivation methods, and the strengthening of research into the birth of companies that will excel in the industry.
The selection criteria for the final winners of the competition will be based on the novelty of the concept, its innovative features and the market it is targeting.
The competition can involve start-ups and individuals or groups with innovative business ideas across the line of aromatic and medicinal plants, from cultivation and standardization to the production of health and nutrition products.
